Cultural and civic leader Ms. Joan Myers Brown, Founder and Executive Artistic Director of PHILADANCO, The Philadelphia Dance Company, received the 89th annual Philadelphia Award by The Philadelphia Award board of trustees. The award ceremony on May 10th included a video detailing Ms. Myers Brown's accomplishments, remarks by Chairman Dr. Donald Parks, and a reception. On Saturday, May 8, 2010, The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and Philadelphia magazine presented the Ninth Annual Philadelphia Wine Festival sponsored by Lexus at The Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. Guests sampled some of the world’s most renowned wines from nearly 200 wineries and dishes from some of Philadelphia's finest restaurants. Proceeds benefited The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. On Friday, May 7, 2010, The Wilma Theater Gala 2010 honored Pulitzer-Prize winning author Buzz Bissinger, longtime Wilma Board Member A.E. "Ted" Wolf, and the memory of the late President of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance Peggy Amsterdam. On Thursday, May 6, 2010 Philadelphia’s Rosenbach Museum & Library held the Rosenbacchanal, the museum’s 22nd Annual Gala at one of Philadelphia’s landmark venues – Urban Outfitters’ headquarters at The Navy Yard. Urban Outfitters creative hub is a space that integrates industrial artifacts with natural elements, such as koi ponds, bamboo plantings, and folk art from the Far East. Among friends and distinguished guests, Rosenbacchanal attendees enjoyed live jazz music, a cocktail hour and wine tasting, an elegant dinner, and a private performance by Philadelphia favorite Headlong Dance Theater. All proceeds from the event support the Rosenbach’s innovative exhibitions and programs in addition to the museum's educational outreach which engages thousands of children in Philadelphia schools each year.
