On Thursday, September 23, 2010 Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife Heidi Hamels hosted a Diamonds and Denim Event at Union Trust Philadelphia Steakhouse to benefit The Hamels Foundation. All ticket sales went toward Philadelphia school grants in order to help local schools receive equipment or materials they are lacking. All other proceeds raised by the event will go toward building their school in Malawi.The invitation-only event featured cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, carving stations, silent auction and live auctions hosted by Comcast Sportsnet’s Michael Barkann, a Bernie Robbins diamond giveaway, a stand-up performance by Joe Conklin, and musical performances by Tony Orlando and LeAnne Rimes. The Philadelphia Orchestra’s Opening Night Concert and Gala on September 23rd, marked the launch of the city’s cultural event season and celebrated the start of the Orchestra’s 2010-2011 season. It featured a performance by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Maestro Charles Dutoit, and world-renowned violinist, Joshua Bell. The concert was followed by a black-tie gala dinner attended by Philadelphia’s most influential business and civic leaders. Alec Baldwin made a special appearance and presentation during the evening’s program to honor Maestro Dutoit’s 30 years with The Philadelphia Orchestra.
 
Dedicated to strengthening the next generations of Philadelphia’s business, political, and civic leaders, The Power Shift and event co-chairs, Nicole A. Cashman of Cashman & Associates and Dr. Keith Leaphart of Replica Creative: Design + Print hosted The Power Shift’s inaugural event, Preparing To Be Presidential, at the Loews Hotel Philadelphia on Monday, September 20th. Guests met and mingled with the city’s most established and up-and-coming business and civic leaders. In addition, guests enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and dessert with a speech by Mayor Michael A. Nutter and keynote speech by Honorary Power Shift co-chair, David L. Cohen, Esq., the Executive Vice President of Comcast Corporation. Meryl Levitz of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation served as the co-master of ceremony with Nicole A. The Friends of Children’s Crisis Treatment Center (CcTC) and event co-chairs Jessica Abelson Sigg and Shaun Lenet hosted the city’s biggest and best unofficial end-of-summer party with a purpose, the 10th Annual Cruise for the Kids. Located on the deck of The Moshulu, guests enjoyed a night full of delicious cuisine, top-shelf open bar, and live music by Verdict and DJ Francisco. Guests bid on exciting raffle items, such as shopping, dining, sports, and entertainment packages, as well as fabulous trips to Atlanta and Cabo! CBS3 and The CW Philly were the event media sponsors, and CBS3’s Stephanie Stahl served as the master of ceremony for the evening. With roughly 475 people in attendance, the event raised a total $67,000. Funds raised will benefit CcTC’s services for Philadelphia children and their families, who are coping with learning and behavioral difficulties, effects of abuse and neglect, and other challenges to early childhood development. On Thursday, September 16th, HBO celebrated the debut of its new drama series “Boardwalk Empire” by revisiting the glitz and glamour of Prohibition-era Atlantic City. The 1920s-themed extravaganza included a red carpet screening at Caesars Circus Maximus Theatre, followed by an exclusive “Prohibition’s Eve” after-party at One Atlantic at The Pier Shops at Caesars.
