On Friday, May 1, 2009, the Wilma Theater held a gala to celebrate co-artistic directors Blanka Zizka and Jiri Zizka's 30th anniversary with the theater. The event started at the Wilma Theater with street performances, cocktails, award presentations, and inside performances, and was followed by a dinner and silent auction next door in the Ormandy Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel. On Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the 10 Rittenhouse Square Sales Center, Philadelphia magazine, along with 10 Rittenhouse Square and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, hosted an exclusive Wine Tasting Reception. In attendance were executive surgeons and cardiologists from CHOP, some of the hospital's prominent Cardiac Center supporters, and special guest Bernard De Laage of Chateau Palmer.
On Thursday, April 30 2009, The Historical Society of Pennsylvania presented its annual Founder’s Award gala. Guests were able to admire historical artifacts such as an original handwritten copy of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and the original flag displayed at George Washington’s first inauguration. On Thursday, April 30, 2009, Philadelphia Futures held its annual bowling and billiards tournament at North Bowl. With the help of co-hosts Ryan Howard and Shane Victorino of the Phillies, the event raised more than $150,000 for the Sponsor-A-Scholar Program, which helps financially support students from high school through college. More than 400 guests enjoyed a fun night of games, chatting with Phillies players, and even having the chance to take pictures with the World Series Trophy. Photography by Paola Nogueras.
On Friday, April 24, 2009, Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education held its 26th annual Benefit for Children at the Ashe Center in East Falls. Guests enjoyed a day full of excitement, including a performance by the Bacon Brothers, live and silent auctions, a cocktail reception, and dinner.
