On Friday, October 3, 2008, the Please Touch Museum held a "purple tie" event to celebrate the culmination of 11 years of expansion plans, to thank their supporters and donors, and to introduce their new site. Guests enjoyed entertainment from local musicians and performers, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, dancing, and a chance to explore the museum.

On Thursday, October 2, 2008, America's oldest botanical garden, Bartram’s Garden, hosted “Twilight in the Garden,” its annual benefit and silent auction. The benefit raised funds for the preservation of the country’s earliest-known collection of Native American plants. Chef Daniel Stern, owner of Rae and Gayle, provided an innovative menu for the guests, including historically based drinks and updated dishes based on 18th-century ingredients. The event was chaired by Elfie and Chris Haab from Villanova and Julie and Jeff DeVuono of Devon.

On Tuesday, October 2, 2008, U Penn held the opening for the Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine. The outpatient facility will offer patients across the area an unprecedented, simple way to undergo testing, receive a diagnosis and undergo treatment under one roof. Photography by Stuart Watson.

On Saturday, September 27, 2008, Living Beyond Breast Cancer held its annual gala to raise money for education and support programs for women and families affected by breast cancer. Guests enjoyed cocktails, a silent auction, dinner and dancing.
