On Thursday, October 2, 2008, America's oldest botanical garden, Bartram’s Garden, hosted “Twilight in the Garden,” its annual benefit and silent auction. The benefit raised funds for the preservation of the country’s earliest-known collection of Native American plants. Chef Daniel Stern, owner of Rae and Gayle, provided an innovative menu for the guests, including historically based drinks and updated dishes based on 18th-century ingredients. On Tuesday, October 2, 2008, U Penn held the opening for the Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.
