On Thursday, March 6, 2008, guests packed Kildare's in Manayunk for a taste of the new gastro pub menu and to meet new corporate chef Brian Duffy. CBS3's Doug Kammerer, NBC 10's Dave Warren, John Clark and Stacey Garvilla were all in attendance.
On Monday, March 3, 2008, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania honored women who make the world a better place at the 22nd Annual Take the Lead awards ceremony at the Philadelphia Four Seasons Hotel. Dr. Amy Gutmann, president of the University of Pennsylvania and a former Girl Scout, was presented with the 2008 Juliette Gordon Low Leadership Award, while Lisa Nutter, Valerie Ferguson, Melissa Fitzgerald, Diane Melley and Carol Wong were also honored for their examples of leadership. On Sunday, March 2, 2008, The Curtis Institute of Music hosted Curtis Cabaret, an evening of jazz, musical theater and bluegrass performed by young musicians studying at Curtis. The evening began with cocktails and dinner at the Prime Rib or a reception at the Rittenhouse Square home of Edith "Bonnie" Barnes. Both groups then gathered at The Curtis Institute of Music to enjoy cabaret performances on the stage of Field Concert Hall. On Saturday, March 1, 2008, Congreso de Latinos Unidos (Congreso), Philadelphia’s leading non-profit organization that strengthens Latino communities, hosted Gala Latina: A Night in Acapulco at the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue. On Saturday, March 1, 2008, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society kicked off the 2008 Philadelphia Flower Show with a Preview Reception and Dinner. Over 3,000 guests attended, raising more than $600,000 for Philadelphia Green, the urban greening arm of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society which works year round to improve parks, community gardens and public spaces throughout Philadelphia and beyond.
