On Thursday, May 31, 2012, Fleisher Art Memorial presented its 23rd Annual Founder’s Award to Jill and Sheldon Bonovitz. The Fleisher Art Memorial’s Founder’s Award recognizes individuals whose significant commitment to providing access to the arts, promoting excellence in creative expression, and enriching Philadelphia’s cultural resources reflects the values of its founder, Samuel S. Fleisher. The 2012 Founder’s Award Celebration was attended by 200 people and raised $192,000 to support Fleisher’s national award winning youth programs. Marguerite and Gerry Lenfest and Suzanne Fleisher Roberts and Ralph Roberts were the Co-chairs of the 2012 Founder’s Award Honorary Committee. Suzanne Roberts is the 2004 recipient of the Founder’s Award. The reception took place in Fleisher’s Louchheim Galleries. On May 21, 2012, hundreds of members of the Peirce College community gathered together under tents on Carlisle Street for an evening of food, drinks, friends, laughs, and networking. Honored by the Alumni Association were Albert G. Cederstrom, Jr. ('43) as the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award, and Babette Pace ('06) as the recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Service Award. Cederstrom announced upon his acceptance his commitment of $50,000 to establish the Albert G. Cederstrom and Emilie I. Cederstrom Memorial Fund for Human Resource Management. On Saturday, May 19, 2013, more than 65,000 people gathered on Walnut Street, from the Avenue of the Arts to Rittenhouse Square, for one of Philadelphia’s most anticipated outdoor festivals. Guests enjoyed samplings from Rittenhouse Row’s best restaurants paired with tastings of Captain Morgan® Black Spiced Rum, Peroni, and Chairman’s Selection™ wines. The American Heart Association hosted its annual Go Red For Women (GRFW) Luncheon and Health Expo at the Marriott Downtown Philadelphia on May 18, 2012. Approximately 700 guests all donned red in support of the Go Red movement and its fight to end the number one killer of women, heart disease. In addition, this year there were two Woman of Heart co-honorees: Eliana Papadakis, former First Lady, Drexel University; and Justice Sandra Schultz Newman, the first female justice elected to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
