Philadelphia Phillies’ second baseman, Chase Utley, and his wife, Jennifer Utley, hosted the 5th Anniversary Utley All-Star Animals Casino Night at the Electric Factory on Thursday, May 10, 2012. Animal lovers, sponsors, and supporters joined the Utley’s for a night full of cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, live and silent auctions, and casino fun, as guests played table games alongside local celebrities and players from the 2012 Philadelphia Phillies. The event raised approximately $400,000 for the Pennsylvania’s PSCA’s Etana Fund to Stop Cruelty Against Animals, which helps prevent and protect against abuse and neglect through their Humane Law Enforcement department. The Women Against MS Luncheon took place from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8th at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. Proceeds from the luncheon, hosted by Kathy Orr of CBS3, benefitted the Greater delaware Valley Chapter of the National MS Society. The luncheon raised an estimated $150,000—the most in its 10-year history. University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann was honored with the 2012 Woman of Spirit Award and a keynote was delivered by Zoe Koploqitz, a marathon runner and motivational speaker who excels despite her diagnoses of MS and diabetes. On Saturday, May 5, 2012, Philadelphia magazine and PA Wines & Spirits Stores partnered to present the Eleventh Annual Philadelphia Wine Festival, at an all new venue—Lincoln Financial Field, in the SCA Club. Guests sampled a wide selection of wines from around the world and culinary creations from some of Philadelphia’s top restaurants. Throughout the evening guests were able to explore a fleet of Lexus vehicles and relax in luxury lounges hosted by Lexus and RBC Wealth Management. The Festival also featured an on-site PA Wine & Spirits Store where guests purchased their favorite wines, as well as a fantastic silent auction. To celebrate its 160 years of impact on the Greater Philadelphia Area, Elwyn presented “A Philadelphia Story” for the 32nd Friends of Elwyn Ball on May 4, 2012. The gala itinerary included a 500 person dinner with a menu featuring Philadelphia-centric delicacies, a sampling of fine cheeses provided by International Food Distributors, musical entertainment by Chico’s Vibe, and a visit by a well-known Mummer string band. Following the Ball, attendees headed over to the Red and Clover Room for the Elwyn Bounce, a club-like gala after-party organized by Elwyn’s Young Professionals Bounce Committee.
On Thursday, May 3, 2012, 700 of the city’s corporate and hospitality headliners joined Hub entrepreneurs Bill Decker and John New for a grand opening celebration at Two Commerce Square. The evening began with red carpet arrivals.
