Philadelphia magazine's Design Home 2004â„¢, located in the Water Mill Community on 35 pristine acres on the edge of Springton Lake in Media, PA, will be open for public tours Thursdays through Mondays from May 1st through May 24th. Using nothing but the finest materials and cutting-edge technology inside and outside, the team of talented and ingenuous builders and designers created a truly magnificent home. All of the proceeds will benefit MANNA, a non-profit organization that delivers nourishment to people living with HIV/AIDS in the greater Philadelphia area. www.phillymag.com/designhome

Philadelphia Magazine, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, and Viking Kitchen teamed up to offer several cooking classes as part of Philadelphia Magazine's 2004 Wine Festival at Viking's Main Line showroom on Saturday, May 1st. The chefs paired their culinary creations with wines from Sterling Vineyards, Beaulieu Vineyards, or well-known French negociant, Barton and Gustier.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art hosted a roaring twenties themed party, Art After Dark, on Saturday, May 1st, to benefit their education department. There were costumed actors (in character) like flapper floozies with sequined headbands and dangling "ciggies" , gangsters with spats, and a billyclub wielding copper to set the tone.

The second annual Summer in the City party at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts again made the year's top ten parties (according to my careful calculations after attending over 300 parties). Held on Saturday, May 22nd, it attracted society, business leaders, music lovers... all in summer cocktail attire. Colorful ties and/or jackets on men, and if some women were slightly overdressed in formal dresses, they did keep to the idea of warm weather colors. The performances were stellar - The Miracles, Patti LePone, and Little Richard this year.

Laurel House battered women's and children's shelter held a fundraising dinner at the Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne on Friday, May 14th. The theme was An Evening with Friends. Eagles coach Andy Reid and his wife Tammy were honorary co-chairs.
