On Tuesday, April 5, 2011, the Philadelphia Zoo, in partnership with the world-renowned Jim Henson Company, presented the opening of the first and only exhibit of its kind: X•tink•shun: A wild puppet x•perience which opened on Saturday, April 9th. The “tail” behind X•tink•shun is told by a cast of characters led by members of endangered, and in one case extinct, species including: Didi the Dodo, Leo the Golden Lion Tamarin, Alfreda Cheetah, Iggle the Eaglet, Phibi Frog, Igor the Tiger and The “Douc” Langer. Their mission is “to bring about the x• tink• shun of extinction.”

On April 3, 2011, the Academy of Vocal Arts’ 2011 honored renowned opera director Tito Capobianco at the Rittenhouse Hotel. Calling the event buenos ARIAS! in recognition of Mr. Capobianco’s Argentine roots, the proceeds from the gala benefitted AVA’s full-tuition scholarship fund. Photography by C & S Photography.

On April 1, 2011, at the Crystal Tea Room, the AIDS Fund hosted a fundraiser to raise money and awareness for AIDS Fund’s partner organizations providing HIV/AIDS services in the Greater Philadelphia Region. The evening began with a cocktail hour where guests mingled with the Bingo Verifying Divas (men in drag) and bid on silent auction items. The Bingo Verifying Divas performed an opening number to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” to begin the festivities. After the awards ceremony, guests enjoyed six bingo games hosted by Bingo Verifying Diva Thunder Showers with guest Ball Boy Bill Henley from NBC10. Photography by Jeff Fusco
