On May 18, 2011, over 100 people sipped cocktails and toured the Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site to learn about the Share the Awe, Save the Murals program. Led by the Catholic Chaplain's Office Restoration Committee, the program aims to preserve murals of the Catholic Chaplain's Office, including 1955 paintings by inmate Lester Smith. On Tuesday, May 17, 2011, approximately 500 guests gathered at the Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia for the annual Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival Preview Party. Guests enjoyed delectable cuisines and cocktails from Rittenhouse Row restaurants, music by DJ Ronnie D and a silent auction benefitting the host organization. Attendees also got a glimpse of the 2011 Infiniti QX and 2011 Infiniti M.
The Edwin Forrest Award was given to arts advocate Diane Dalto Woosnam at Walnut Street Theatre's 202nd Anniversary Gala Concert on Friday, May 13, 2011. Woosnam most recently served as Director of the Office of Arts and Culture for Philadelphia and has been involved in several organizations' boards, such as The Philadelphia Orchestra and The Philadelphia Art Alliance. All the proceeds from the event went toward the Walnut Street Theatre's Education and Outreach Programming and it's 110,000 children who are involved in the Delaware Valley. The "Bet on the J" casino night fundraiser saw 300 guests help to raise over $200,000 to benefit the 2011 Jewish Community Center Maccabi Games on May 7, 2011.
NBC 10's Vai Sikahema hosted the 2011 PAL Award Dinner at the Sheraton City Center Hotel on May 10, 2011. PAL helps children develop self-esteem and ambition through educational, athletic and cultural activities. This year's honorees were Ruben Amaro Jr. of The Phillies, Daniel Hilferty of Independence Blue Cross and Jeffrey Scarpello, Esq., of the Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter, NECA. The event's live auction celebrity auctioneer was Bob Kelly of CBS 3. All proceeds from the event funded the Police Athletic League's programs and facilities. This event raised close to $900,000.
