The nonprofit educational management organization, American Paradigm Schools, held a cocktail reception to announce its formation on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Independence Visitor Center. The founders and management team of First Philadelphia Charter School and Tacony Academy Charter School announced that there would be a new model in struggling schools and districts that would replicate the successful inner-city charter school program. Soledad O'Brien and Paul Vallas served as the keynote speakers, while Monique Braxton of NBC 10 was the MC. The event was hosted by CEO and Co-Founder Stacey Cruise and Co-Founder Gerald Santilli, and they provided attendees with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Photography by Joseph Kaczmarek.
Philadelphia Magazine celebrated the top doctors who appeared in the May 2011 issue at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Marc Vetri, Tom Colocchio, John Besh, Jose Garces and Aaron Sanchez were just a few of the chefs that participated in the Sixth Annual Great Chefs Event on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Urban Outfitters Headquarters. More than 30 chefs gave samples of some of their best dishes, while attendees mingled and participated in silent and live auctions. Guests of the “Top of the Town Tasting” on June 13, 2011 sampled fare from nine regions around the globe - including Italy, Spain, France and Argentina – at the Loews Hotel. Presented by Southern Wine and Spirits of Pennsylvania and the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, proceeds from the event's silent and live auctions benefitted Eagles tight-end Brent Celek's Take Flight Foundation, which serves thousands of children throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. Over 10,000 people celebrated the PrideDay LGBT Parade and Festival, which ran from 13th and Locust all the way to Penn's Landing on Sunday, June 12, 2011. The six-hour event hosted by Philly Pride Presents, Inc., included entertainment, food, drinks and over 150 vendors. Mayor Michael Nutter was present to give an address to the Festival crowd.
