On Tuesday, May 25, the Mansion at Bala held its grand opening May 25, 2010, for the 276 newly built luxury apartments in the exclusive Bala Cynwyd/City Avenue District of Philadelphia. The delicately designed and spacious units feature 10-foot ceilings with crown molding, classic oak wood and ceramic tile flooring, as well as 8-foot bay windows that provide great light and impressive views. The residence apartments encompass a kitchen with over-sized granite counter tops, spacious and relaxing bathrooms, and offer either a capacious balcony or a brightly light sunroom.
The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) hosted its annual Promise Ball on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. This year, the Promise Ball honored JDRF Founder, Lee Ducat; corporate honoree, Good Neighbor Pharmacy and acknowledged JDRF’s 40th Anniversary. Guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails and a silent auction, dinner, music and dancing by the Eddie Bruce Band, a special live auction and “Find a Cure.” The Masters of Ceremonies were actor and entertainer, Dave King and QVC host, Jenny Repko. The Wellness Community of Philadelphia held its 12th annual Evening in the Park on May 21st at the Suzanne Morgan Center in Fairmount Park. The gala honored cancer survivor Marisa Acocella Marchetto, author of the 2006 graphic memoir, “Cancer Vixen,” which will be made into a film starring Cate Blanchett. Also honored were cancer survivor and Wellness Community volunteer Bernie Brody and B101 FM. The benefit, attended by 200 guests, raised $150,000 for the center, which provides free educational programs and support for people with cancer and their families. Photography by Lee Moskow.
