Owners Frank Dougherty and Maureen Shay celebrated the opening of their restaurant, Harry's Oyster Bar & Seafood, at the Dennis Towers at Bally's Atlantic City on Monday, June 27, 2011. The night was not only about food, drinks and entertainment; all proceeds from the event contributed to The Joseph and Arleen Dougherty ICU at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. The Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society hosted its seventh annual Chefs' Dinner at the Union League of Philadelphia on Monday, June 27, 2011. Last year, the event raised around $220,000 with 90% of each dollar going to animal programs and services. This year, over 470 guests dined on a four-course meal with wine pairings. Among the respected guests were Tom Pizzica, Matt Hill, Chris Lee, Georges Perrier, Jose Garces, Chris Scarduzio, Martin Hamann and Lee Styer.
Two hundred and forty golfers and volunteers gathered for The Parkinson Golf Classic at The Philadelphia Cricket Club on Monday, June 27, 2011. In attendance was Earth, Wind & Fire's Phillip Bailey whose fellow band member, Maurice White, had been diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2000. Attendees participated in a friendly game of golf, enjoyed family-style entrees and got involved in a raffle and silent and live auctions. The raffle items included an IPad 2 and an LG television, and the auctions items included stays at ski resorts, rounds of golf in Florida, a tour of MSNBC studios and gift certificates to Philly restaurants. With all of these packages, the Classic was able to raise over $275,000 for The Parkinson Council. Photography by Daniel Mueller.
The SS United States Conservancy hosted a dinner dance on June 24, 2011 at the Corinthian Yacht Club. The event, titled Relive an Evening Aboard the SS United States, joined 150 Conservancy patrons and friends together aboard the ocean liner near the Delaware River. Hors d'oeuvres, dinner, and dancing were enjoyed in black tie/1950s attire. There were also silent and live auctions where partners such as Philadelphia Distilling, Brooks Brothers and The Curtis Institute of Music donated items. Attendees at the UCP Motor Cars Under the Stars event mingled amongst the classic cars curated by photographer Michael Furman while enjoying hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, dinner and an auction. The event took place at the Aronimink Golf Club on Friday, June 24, 2011. Pat Ciarrochi of CBS 3 won the UCP Life Without Limits Award in recognition of her effort to help people with disabilities, and William J. Avery served as Honorary Chair of the evening.
