The new Aloft Philadelphia Airport Hotel hosted a welcome-home celebration for Olympic gold-medal swimmer and Havertown native Brendan Hansen on Friday, September 12th. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Cancer Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

On Thursday, September 11, 2008, Friends of Children's Crisis Treatment Center (CcTC) held their annual Cruise for the Kids. Sponsored by Brown Hill Development and the Goldenberg Group, the event took place at Moshulu and featured entertainment by local reggae band Verdict and DJ Lucas Rivera. On Tuesday, September 9, 2008, the Kimmel Center and the Rhythm & Blues Foundation presented the 20th Anniversary 2008 Pioneer Awards Gala, hosted by Wayne Brady, Bonnie Raitt, Dionne Warwick and Jerry Butler, and featuring performances by this year's honorees and hosts. On Friday, September 5, 2008, The Young Friends of the Philadelphia Museum of Art celebrated the end of summer and beginning of the fall season with an eco-friendly garden party at the Rodin Museum. The outdoor celebration “went green” by utilizing natural light and guests dined on biodegradable dishes. Proceeds benefited the Young Friends in their mission to acquire artwork for the museum.
