The 2001 PAL awards dinner, their largest event and largest fundraiser of the year, was held, May 17th at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel's ballroom. This year's dinner honored David L. Cohen, Esq., the former chief of staff to Mayor Ed Rendell and Current Chairman of the law firm of Ballard Spahr Andrews and Ingersoll. Co-chairs were J. William Mills and David Montgomery. Since 1947, the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia has helped children and teenagers overcome challenges and enhance their skills. The 23 centers provide a safe haven in which to meet, play and learn for more than 27,000 boys and girls, ages 6 to 18. The facilities and programs are supervised by Philadelphia Police Officers specially trained in youth activities and sports. Proceeds from the dinner keep PAL's centers in operations and also provide college scholarships to outstanding young people.
