Philadelphia police opened fire on a shooting suspect in Kensington Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on the 400 block of East Somerset Street, where police responded to a report of shooting.

Investigators told CBS3 that officers encountered a man who allegedly pointed a gun at them and threatened to shoot. The news organization reports that seven cops then opened fire on the man, who was struck at least once. He was reportedly taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

After the man was shot, police found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound in a nearby home. Investigators believe the man who was shot by police is the man who shot the woman, according to reports. She was reportedly taken to Temple University Hospital and is in critical condition.

One of the officers was wearing a body camera. Investigators plan to review footage.
