Seamus McCaffery Makes the Rounds With GOP AG Candidate

Yep, the disgraced ex-justice is still glad-handing with pols. He introduced his longtime pal John Rafferty, the Republican Attorney General nominee, to friends at a FOP event.

L to R: Former Supreme Court Justice Seamus McCaffery and Republican Attorney General candidate John Rafferty at a state Fraternal Order of Police event on August 8th.

Seamus McCaffery, the former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice who resigned after getting caught swapping pornographic emails, is still moving and shaking in Philadelphia’s political scene. He tells us he introduced Republican Attorney General nominee John Rafferty to his friends at a state Fraternal Order of Police conference on August 8th.

That’s the two of them cheesin’ in the photo above, taken at the FOP’s city headquarters in Northeast Philly.

“John and I have been friends for 25 years,” said McCaffery. “We go back to law school days.”

McCaffery said attendees at the event included FOP delegates throughout Pennsylvania, state representatives, state senators and other politicos. He wasn’t invited by Rafferty, he said, but bumped into him there and proceeded to make the rounds with him.

McCaffery noted that he also saw Democratic Attorney General candidate Josh Shapiro at the event, though he didn’t introduce Shapiro to anyone. “I’ve always been on a friendly basis with Josh Shapiro, but we don’t socialize,” said McCaffery.

We can’t help but notice that this glad-handing took place on the exact same day that former Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s trial was getting started.

Between Kane’s conviction for perjury, ex-Congressman Chaka Fattah’s conviction for corruption, ex-state treasurer Rob McCord’s plea to extortion, the “Porngate” scandal, and the FBI’s raids of Councilman Bobby Henon’s offices, Philadelphians aren’t feeling the greatest about their elected officials right now. So maybe it’s not the best idea for an Attorney General candidate who promises to take on badly behaving pols to hang out with McCaffery at a political event?

When we asked Rafferty’s campaign about the photo, spokesman Michael Barley was not exactly forthcoming. He didn’t respond to a question asking whether Rafferty and McCaffery were friends, acquaintances or otherwise, only saying that they went to law school and served on a statewide veterans task force together. Barley also would not say whether McCaffery introduced Rafferty to people at the FOP conference.

“I wasn’t there, I don’t know,” he said.

When later told that McCaffery confirmed that he had made introductions for his longtime friend at the FOP’s headquarters, Barley did not deny that account.
