Police and firefighters are searching for a man who was seen jumping into the Schuylkill River yesterday afternoon near the Chestnut Street bridge.

Two teenagers who saw the man jump around 5 p.m. followed him into the water in an attempt to save him, according to NewsWorks.

Miles Burton and Dylan Vanderlaan, both 18, told NewsWorks they jumped about 10 feet into the river near the Schuylkill Banks trail and tried to maneuver the man out of the water, but he refused assistance. He appeared to be homeless, according to the Inquirer.

The teens were safely pulled from the water.

Crews combed the river until late last night looking for the missing man but were unsuccessful. The search will continue this morning.
