Man Robbed of $5,000 in Winnings Outside South Philly Turf Club

Fortunately, his fluffy white dog was not taken.

It’s as classic a crime as they come: Man wins big on a horse race and promptly has his winnings stolen from him as he’s exiting the OTB. (See: Kramer on Seinfeld.) Well, it sounds like that’s exactly what happened recently outside a South Philadelphia OTB.

Police are looking for the man in this photo, who is wanted for a robbery outside the Parx Turf Club at 700 Packer Avenue. The crime occurred around 6 p.m. on April 6th.

According to investigators, the suspect was captured on surveillance video at 6 p.m. that day just outside the OTB. Police say he was “lingering.” Then when a 64-year-old man carrying a Coach bag came out of the OTB, having just cashed out, the suspect allegedly stole the bag and the victim’s wallet.

Investigators say that the suspect made off with $5,000 in cash, a New Jersey driver’s license, credit cards, and an “access” card. Fortunately, the suspect did not get the little fluffy white dog that was accompanying the victim. Watch on the surveillance video as the dog chases the victim as he is pursuing the suspect.

It sure looks to us that the victim is still holding a large bag as the suspect flees, but police say they have no further information available.

Police describe the suspect as follows: “White male, heavy build, short gray hair, wearing glasses, red & black long sleeve shirt, and blue jeans.”

Anyone with information is asked to call South Detectives at 215-686-3013.
