Police: Woman Robbed at Gunpoint in Northern Liberties

The suspect took her passport and $650 in cash and gift cards.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect in an armed robbery in Northern Liberties that took place last Thursday night.

At 10:42 p.m., a 41-year-old woman was walking down the 400 block of Brown Street when the man seen here walked up behind her and tried to grab her purse, according to police. When she spun around, the man yanked the purse away from her and then told her to hand over her cell phone as well. She said no, so he allegedly pulled out a gun. But she still refused, and fortunately for her, the suspect ran away, as you’ll see on the surveillance video.

Police say that the man jumped into the passenger seat of a car that had been waiting for him at the intersection of Brown and Lawrence, and then the car drove away, heading east on Brown Street. Investigators describe the getaway car as an older dark car, maybe a Toyota.

According to police, the victim’s purse contained her passport, $350 in cash, and $300 in iTunes gift cards.

The suspect is described as follows: “Black male, early 20 years-of-age, 5’5″, 220lbs, heavy build, short hair, clean shaven, wearing red camouflaged pants, dark colored hooded sweatshirt.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Dunne at 215-686-3093. Watch the surveillance video below.
