UPDATE: The lockdown has reportedly been lifted.

ORIGINAL: Kensington’s Urban Education Academy is under lockdown after a school officer’s gun was stolen.

The officer was off-duty at the time of the theft. Philadelphia Police spokeswoman Christine O’Brien said the school officer left the gun in his car, however, he is unsure whether it was stolen outside of his home or outside of the school.

The school has been locked down as a precaution.

When asked if the officer in question will face any repercussions, O’Brien said that with a permit to carry, weapons cannot be left unattended or in a car. However, she said that since it was a school officer, the Philadelphia School District will be responsible for any sanctions against him.

“[You] can’t leave a loaded weapon unattended,” O’Brien added.

A representative from the school board said she has no further information at this time.
