A Friday afternoon bus ride turned violent when a rider was stabbed, sending him to the hospital.

SEPTA Police say the incident occurred around 2 p.m. on the 56 bus, a Northeast Philadelphia route formerly served by a trolley. According to police, two men were involved in an altercation on the bus, and when it stopped at the corner of Torresdale Avenue and Paul Street, one of the men stabbed the other and then fled on foot. The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital, and his condition was not immediately available.

Police aren’t sure what the fight was about or exactly what type of weapon was used in the stabbing. They also haven’t released a description of the suspect as they are waiting for video to be obtained from the bus. Police are currently searching for the suspect in the area near the stabbing.
