Police are investigating the death of a 75-year-old man whose body was found in a Center City hotel.

Investigators told Philly Mag today that the man’s identity isn’t being made available until an autopsy is complete. But 6ABC said it was told by sources the man is a “prominent psychiatrist” whose office is a few blocks away from the Rodeway Hotel in the 1200 block of Walnut, where the body was found.

The station reported also that a white cloth was found around the neck of the man’s body.

“It’s a suspicious death in manner. So at this point, they are looking at it, investigating it, and pretty much taking it step-by-step,” Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford told the station.

Police would say only that the body was discovered shortly before noon Monday by a hotel maid. “When the witness opened the door, she observed a white male lying on the floor with a white sheet covering his face and part of his body,” the department said in a statement.

There was no word when the autopsy might be complete.
