3 Dead After Apparent Murder-Suicide in Montco

The shooter was identified as Paul Marshall, 48. He allegedly killed his girlfriend and her adult son before turning the gun on himself.

Three were left dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Hatfield Borough on Sunday, authorities said.

In a release today, Montgomery County district attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Hatfield police chief William J. Tierney announced a joint investigation into the killings. Montco first district attorney Kevin Steele said the apparent instigator was 48-year-old Paul Marshall.

Marshall was found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Before that, investigators say, he shot and killed a 48-year-old woman and her 28-year-old son. Their identities were not released. Multiple fired shell casings were found inside the home on Diamond Street near Unionville Pike. Marshall was the owner of the house the victims were found in.

Police found a semi-automatic rifle in Marshall’s possession. An autopsy ruled his death a suicide this morning. A 27-year-old woman and her 4-year-old daughter were in the building at the time of the shooting, but were not physically injured.

The Morning Call identified the shooter as the female victim’s boyfriend; authorities did not say what led up to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
