A man who was trapped under the Market-Frankford El in West Philadelphia today has died.

Police later said his death is being considered a suicide.

The man jumped under the tracks just before noon. NBC 10 reports he was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m.

El service is suspended between 52nd and 69th Street stations until further notice. Shuttle buses are running between the two stops. SEPTA says to expect delays.

More than 8,000 deaths have taken place on train tracks over the last 18 years; roughly half are suicides. About 10 people a year are killed by trains in the area, according to the Inquirer.
