Police: Suspect in Sexual Assault of Temple Student in Custody

U.S. Marshals captured the suspect in sexual assault of a 20-year-old Temple student.

Philadelphia Police today announced the suspect in the sexual assault and robbery of a Temple student has been apprehended. He was taken into custody sometime late last night or early morning by federal agents, a police spokeswoman said. The suspect’s name has not yet been released, nor were other details of the arrest available.

Police had released surveillance footage of the suspect on Friday of last week.

The incident happened on September 28th at about 11:15 p.m. Police said a man went up behind a woman on the 1400 block of Carlisle Street and stuck the 20-year-old victim on the arm with a silver handgun. He told her not to scream and took her to a construction site, where he sexually assaulted her and robbed her.

Last week, police said the suspect in this sexual assault and robbery was also wanted in a gunpoint robbery near the Temple campus. Earlier, Philadelphia cops credited SEPTA Transit Police with poring through hours of footage to find the surveillance footage of the suspect. (Police had first found the suspect on footage from a surveillance camera at Morgan Hall, and eventually traced him back to the Broad Street Subway.)

A witness and the victim both identified the attacker through the footage.
