The Best Thing That Happened This Week

The Eagles lost their season opener. Really.

Bear with us here. Think about it. High as our hopes might be, this team is not the 1972 Dolphins. They’re not even the 2011 Green Bay Packers. They were going to lose eventually. And frankly, we’re not a city that’s psychologically equipped to withstand the pressure of a could-be-undefeated season. We’ve been through too much. We’re just too fragile. Angelo Cataldi would explode if he had to go 16 weeks wondering when the inevitable would occur — not that Angelo Cataldi exploding would be a bad thing. Do you want to experience the tension of the last five minutes of Monday’s game for the entire rest of the season? No. This way, we got it over with right out of the chute. From here on, things can only get better. (Byron Maxwell, we’re looking at you.) No holding our collective breath up until January. Hey, 15-and-one ain’t so bad!
