Pope Gets Phillies Baseball Card

He's a rookie, apparently.

Apparently the only thing that can save the Phillies’ attendance numbers this season is divine intervention.

Head out to the ballpark tonight, and you’ll be able to pick up the Phillies’ rookie baseball card for … Pope Francis. “In honor of Pope Francis’ upcoming visit to celebrate the World Meeting of Families Congress, fans may pick up a commemorative Phillies Pope Francis Rookie Card at the First Base and Third Base Kiosks,” the team says on its website. “Other information about his visit to Philadelphia will also be available.”

SB Nation observes: “Not sure why it’s a rookie card, although it’s technically correct since he has never played in the MLB. Also, it’s not clear whether or not the Pope’s stats are on the back of the card, or what those may be.”

The game against the Washington Nationals starts at 7:05 p.m.
