Oakland Breaks Philly’s Soul Train Record

Philadelphia had held the Guinness World Record since 2012.

Remember when Philadelphia set the record for the world’s longest Soul train line?

The glory days are over, friends. The torch has been passed to Oakland, which amassed 337 dancers to shatter Philly’s mark.

“The previous certified record of 298 dancers was set in 2012 in Philadelphia, but Oakland’s soul train was a full 39 dancers longer than that,” SFist reports. “(It looks like a 2014 record tried to be set in Goodyear, Arizona, however, with 426 dancers, however the Contra Costa Times reports that the Oakland soul train dance was certified by a Guinness official, and therefore will stand.)”

We’ve reached out to Old School 100.3, which organized Philly’s previous record-setting effort, for comment. No word yet on whether Philly will try to reclaim the record.
