A man in Rhawnhurst fired a gun into the air multiple times from a moving minivan while leaving a restaurant, police say.

Surveillance footage from May 3rd shows a group of men walking into a minivan in the parking lot of the Mediterranean 2000 Restaurant at 8026 Bustleton Avenue, near Solly. One of the men fired several shots into the air while the van exited the parking lot.

One of Philadelphia’s worst traditions is firing guns into the air, either in celebration (or seemingly at random). The police warn against it every December. There’s even evidence of Swedish settlers in the 1700s, dressed as clowns, shooting guns into the air to celebrate the New Year. (And you think the Mummers are bad.)

There are no other people in cars in the lot when the shots were fired; two men were standing in the parking lot earlier but had left. Police are looking for a gold Honda Odyssey. They released this description of the suspect:

Suspect Description: Male, unknown race, 30-40 years-of-age, medium build, approximately 5’11″, wearing a blue short sleeve shirt, black shorts, and black shoes.
