Winter Weather on Way for Weekend

Mix of snow and rain will make roads slick, probably delay flights.

Forecasters say a nor’easter is on the way to the Philadelphia region and should give us a serious mix of rain and snow this weekend.

“We can expect mainly snow and sleet overnight Friday into Saturday morning,” Fox 29 reports. “On Saturday, by midday we will see snow to sleet, and then Saturday early afternoon to early evening we will see sleet to snow as the event ends. In the video above, the green coloring on the map is rain, pink is a mix of rain and snow, and white is snow.

“Light snow is expected to move into the Philadelphia area around 10 p.m., said NBC10 First Alert Meteorologist Brittney Shipp,” NBC10 adds. “Overnight that snow will likely turn to rain — possibly freezing — and it will linger into early afternoon Saturday.”

AccuWeather warns: “Even where moderate snowfall occurs or snow changes to rain, the storm can easily be the biggest snowstorm of the winter so far and bring substantial travel disruptions. … Included in the potential swath of accumulating snow is the Interstate-95 corridor from near Washington, D.C., and Baltimore to Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. Even though rain could mix in over all or part of this zone, roads will be slippery during much of the storm. Airline delays are likely with the potential for cancellations.”
