Center City Bank Robbed by Man With Fake Bomb

The bandit made off with an unspecified amount of cash on Tuesday night.

The FBI says that the man seen in these photos robbed the Republic Bank at 1601 Walnut Street on Tuesday night around 6:45 p.m. According to the FBI, he did so using a fake bomb.

The suspect walked into the Center City bank and handed the bank teller a note, demanding money and explaining that he was carrying a bomb. Then he pulled out a box with wires hanging out of it. The teller gave him cash, and he left.

According to the FBI, the box with wires hanging out of it was not an actual bomb.

Authorities describe the suspect as follows: “black male, approximately 5’10”-6’1” tall, medium build, with eyeglasses. He wore a white hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black boots, and a knit winter cap.”

Anyone with information should call the FBI at 215-418-4000. He is considered armed and dangerous.
