Child, 3, Hit by Stray Bullet in South Philly

Police say a gunman shot another man after an argument on the 1300 block of South Newkirk. One of the shots struck a 3-year-old in the leg.

A 3-year-old was hit by a stray bullet in Grays Ferry, police report. The child was among two who were hit on the 1300 block of S. Newkirk Street.

“Philadelphia Police say the gunman was apparently searching for someone at the home, but got into a confrontation with a 40-year-old on the porch,” 6ABC reports. “The gunman fired, striking the 40-year-old man. Then, police say, the gunman fired into the home next door, hitting the 3-year-old child.”

The child was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; the adult victim was taken to University of Pennsylvania Hospital. Both are reported in stable condition.

The shooter remains at large.
