Manco & Manco Owner Won’t Keep Tourism Gig

Ocean City mayor Jay Gillian has reconsidered appointing Manco & Manco owner Chuck Bangle to the tourist commission. Bangle is facing tax evasion charges.

The owner of Manco & Manco won’t be keeping his tourism post after all.

News broke yesterday that Ocean City mayor Jay Gillian had reappointed Manco & Manco owner Chuck Bangle to the tourist development commission. Now, after a flurry of publicity, he’s reversed course and pulled the re-appointment.

Bangle and his wife Mary were charged earlier this year with failing to report nearly $1 million in income to the IRS.

“Following discussions between the administration and Charles Bangle over the past two days, it was agreed that Mr. Bangle would not be reappointed to a position on the Ocean City Tourist Development Commission at this time,” Gillian said in a statement Thursday.

Previously, Gillian and members of the Ocean City council praised Bangle for his work on the tourist development board. “I’ve reached out to some of the people who have worked with Chuck and they all feel he has done a fabulous job,” Council president Tony Wilson told the Press of Atlantic City, which first wrote about the reappointment.

Motions in the Bangles’ case are due next month.
