Royal Farms Aiming at Wawa Territory in Expansion

The Baltmore-based convience store chain has four locations in the works in the Philadelphia area. It may open more.

Royal Farms, a Baltimore-based convenience store chain, is encroaching on Wawa’s turf.

The Philadelphia Business Journal says Royal Farms has already scouted out four locations — Ridley, Upper Chichester, Concord and Glenolden. Here’s how you know it’s a battle: Upper Chichester is pretty close to Wawa, Pennsylvania!

A Royal Farms spokesperson tells the PBJ there are no set number of stores planned for the Philadelphia area. The Upper Chichester location has faced opposition from residents. Royal Farms is looking to operate a convenience store and gas pumps at the site.

Royal Farms is best known for its chicken. It was also recently charged with charging for air at pumps. Baltimore law requires free air pumps.
