Lynne Abraham to Run for Mayor

Former Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham is going to run for mayor of Philadelphia, a source told the Inquirer. Abraham was the city’s district attorney from 1991 to 2010. Before that, she held a variety of jobs in Philadelphia government, including head of the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority under Mayor Frank Rizzo.

Eleanor Dezzi, an advisor to Abraham, told the paper Abraham would likely make a formal announcement in November.

That brings the number of announced candidates for Philadelphia mayor to three, unless Milton Street announced while I wasn’t looking. Terry Gillen, an adviser to both Ed Rendell and Michael Nutter, announced she was running in June. Also today, Ken Trujillo formally announced his candidacy. Trujillo is the former city solicitor under Mayor John Street.

Philadelphia has never had a female mayor.
