FOP Endorses Wolf for Governor

Recommendations driven by Corbett's pension proposal.

The Morning Call reports that the 40,000-member Fraternal Order of Police has given its endorsement to Democrat Tom Wolf in the state gubernatorial race.

The main reason? Pensions. Incumbent Gov. Tom Corbett has proposed a radical overhaul to pensions for the state’ public employees.

Another reason? Legislation in Harrisburg that would prohibit the state from collecting union dues on behalf of public employee unions.

“Our organization is facing serious assaults on both our ability to collectively bargain as well as our pensions,” said state FOP vice president Roosevelt Poplar, a Philadelphia police officer. “We have confidence that as governor, Mr. Wolf will stand up for law enforcement officers by providing us with a real and meaningful seat at the table when these issues are discussed.”

The FOP represents state and municipal police across Pennsylvania.
