Death of 3-Year-Old May Spark New Gun Rules

Seth Williams wants mandatory minimum sentences for illegal firearm possession.

Spurred by this month’s death of 3-year-old Tynirah Borum in a shootout, D.A. Seth Williams led a group of local officials this afternoon in calling for new rules requiring a mandatory minimum two-year prison sentence for illegal firearm possession.

A 22-year-old man was charged with murder, assault, and violation of the Uniform Firearms Act following that incident.

More to come as details emerge.

There are countless instances of VUFA cases at the CJC as there are countless instances where there is a Mandatory Mininum. Miraculously, the vast majority of these Judges throw the Mandatory Mins to the wayside and offer up a slap on the wrist. It is complete nonsense but until there is true reform to how Judges are placed on the bench and how they are retained, it won’t change.
