Bykofsky a Bigot? Yes, Says Helen Gym

It happened on Twitter. (Where else?)

Veteran Daily News columnist Stu Bykofsky is taking a lot of heat for his recent coverage of the immigration debate, most recently with his article from earlier this week entitled, “Am I anti-Latino?”, which Philly.com Tweeted out as, “Byko: Am I a bigot?” Well, schools activist Helen Gym has responded with a resounding YES!, citing various examples from the Bykofsky bibliography of bigotry:

And now, there's a Philebrity poll. The voting has just begun, but 86% say, "Yes. One thousand times yes."

Can someone honestly explain to me how opposition to illegal immigration is bigotry?

    • Joseph Haas

Well, a lot of it seems to be rooted in hatred and/or suspicion of “the other.” Other than that ….

      • philly32382

Yea, that doesn’t answer my question at all. How does opposing “illegal” (notice the word illegal) immigration count as bigotry.

        • tmmccloskey

It was only made “Illegal” when people from South America and Asia and the Caribbean (except Cuba) wanted to immigrate here. Europeans did not face the same scrutiny when they came here. Google ‘Chinese Exclusion Act” and “Mexican Repatriation 1929,” “Bispee Deportation” and “Immigration Act of 1924.”

I think that maybe times have changed a little bit since the early 20th century no?

          • Danielzinho

I think you’re a bigot who’s trying to convince yourself that you’re not.

    • Danielzinho

can you honestly say that your opposition to illegal immigrantion has nothing to do with the fact that many of them are hispanic and spanish speaking?

      • philly32382

I didn’t say that I oppose it. I just asked how it’s related to bigotry.

        • Danielzinho

do you have a basic understanding of what the word bigotry means?

  • Earl J

Stu’s fixation and constant rants on bicycling make me question his objectivity on anything he writes about.

    • philly32382

Yea, most of the stuff that Stu writes is senseless garbage. I just can’t see the connection between being a bigot, and opposing law breakers.

  • rechill

If Stu Bykofsky is a bigot then Helen Gym is a terrorist.

  • rechill

Oh wait, forgot about that last tweet. He must be a misogynist too.

  • Enuf already

Sounds to me like Helen Gym is a bigot in addition to meeting the saying “Ignorance can be fixed, stupid is forever.” Its sad that she doesn’t think America has the right to protect itself nor its citizens, their families, welfare, present and future. WE the taxpayers also have rights!

How is calling ISIS what they are bigoted? Is Helen Gym saying ISIS is representative of all Muslims?
