Gunman Steals Two Guns from Man Outside Gun Range [UPDATED]

And it happened right near police headquarters.

On Wednesday night at 6:40 p.m., a 68-year-old man was getting into his car outside of Yuri’s Gun Range, which is on Percy Street, just around the corner from Philadelphia police headquarters at 8th and Spring Garden streets. A man and a woman approached him, and the man pointed a handgun in the victim’s face and stole his backpack, which contained two 22-caliber handguns. Meanwhile, the woman fished through his pockets and took some other items. The pair fled in a car.

Here are descriptions of the suspects, as provided by police:

Suspect #1: Black female, 20 years-of-age, 5’3″-5’5″, medium to heavy build, round face, short hair, wearing black framed eye glasses, gray hooded sweatshirt, and dark colored jeans.

They got the drop on him. Sad.

That was the first of two robberies in two nights outside Philadelphia gun shops. Last night’s victim was shot and critically wounded:

Instead of, “If they had guns”I guess this means the NRA’s new Talk Radio Assignment will be “If only we could open carry”.

Open carry technically is legal in PA and is a great idea north of say, Callowhill, where you’ll be seen as a cop by most hood rats if it’s a waist carried handgun. Horrible idea elsewhere in the city IMO.

As a CC permit holder I’d rather be robbed than have my life ruined by shooting someone. (And yes I’ve had a gun pulled on me in Philly. ) Not much you can do against two guys with guns anyway. Carrying isn’t a magic charm to prevent bad guys from messing with you, it needs to be coupled with street smarts, training, body language cues, etc etc all while realizing you will be known forever as a killer when someone googles your name if you’ve had to shoot someone. Only worth it if your families being threatened, since defending yourself from a civil lawsuit by the criminals family and scumbag lawyers are considerably more $ than what’s in your wallet.

Still, if you have to travel or work in pretty lawless areas of Philly, it’s just kinda dumb not to at least carry mace if guns scare you.
