Civic Journalism Site AxisPhilly Shutting Down

Temple's Center for Public Interest Journalism is pulling the plug on AxisPhilly, which was founded in 2012.

AxisPhilly, the civic local journalism start-up best known for its extensive property tax map last year, is shutting down.

Temple University’s Center for Public Interest Journalism is pulling the plug on the site, which won an Online News Association Award for General Excellence last year. In its place, it is hoping to serve as “an incubator” for local news projects. The Center announced it was partnering with a Philadelphia-based news startup from ex-washingtonpost.com editor Jim Brady “that will seek to cultivate audiences currently disengaged from traditional news products.”
