Cape May County Zoo Euthanizes Lion

Brutu, a 16-year-old lion, was suffering from multiple ailments. Zookeepers said he wasn’t going to get any better.

The Cape May County Zoo announced that it has euthanized Brutu, a 16-year-old lion that first came to the zoo in 2002. The Press of Atlantic City reports the big cat was put to sleep due to age-related arthritis and a compressed spinal cord.

“We are deeply saddened about losing him but inspired by his courage and bravery during the last several months,” New Jersey Freeholder E. Marie Hayes told the Press.
