Dan Baker Out As Eagles PA Announcer

Team making a “change in direction” after 29 years.

CBS Philly reports: “Dan Baker has one of the most well-known voices in Philadelphia. That voice will be heard in one less place this fall. The Philadelphia Eagles announced Wednesday that Baker will no longer be the in-stadium voice for the team. Baker has been the team’s PA announcer for 29 years. The team informed Baker of the decision last week.”

Not sure what the point of this is. I loved hearing Dan at the home games. His, “Another, Eagles FIRST DOWN!” always gave me chills. I love Lurie as an owner, but I think the FO really misunderstands Philadelphia’s love for tradition and our love for stupid nostalgic things like the PA announcers voice. If they get rid of a classic like Dan and replace him with some stupid hip guy with a DJ voice the game day experience will be cheapened, not improved.

Dan is nothing but class, carpetbagger Lurie is just the ass.

Chris “Wheels” Wheeler got the gig.

The story about how Dan got into announcing is a special one that started in a bar in Philadelphia with a surprise interview. It would be a great story to have him tell.
