Penn A Capella Group Actually Really Good

“Pitch Perfect,” University City style.

Meet Counterparts, the co-ed a capella group that just qualified for the regional semifinals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella (ICCA). If Counterparts beats out nine other semifinalists, they will represent the Mid-Atlantic region in the finals, held in New York on April 26th. This is the same group that John Legend performed with when he was at Penn.

Here they are performing “Big White Room,” for which Counterparts President Swaroop Rao won “Outstanding Soloist” in the quarterfinal round.

If I'm judging, I'm giving high marks to the singing, but am left underwhelmed by the choreography. For inspiration, just imagine Ben Folds is nodding his head at you soulfully, and that Jewel is mouthing the words to your song with a glazed-over look on her face.

Uh…This video is a Lourde mash-up from their fall show, and is in no way their choreographed performance from the ICCAs. Check the facts yo!
