“Suspicious Letters” Reported at Super Bowl

Investigation under way.

The Star-Ledger reports: “Federal, state and local officials are investigating reports of white powder being sent to multiple hotels near Met Life Stadium, just two days before the Super Bowl, according to authorities.”

“The Joint Terrorism Task Force and Hazard Materials units have responded to several locations that have received a suspicious letter and substance,” the New Jersey State Police wrote in a statement at 1:30 p.m. “There are no reported injuries at this time, and the locations are being secured.”

Jeanne Baratta, the chief of staff at the Bergen County Executive’s Office, said authorities discovered suspicious letters and/or substances at seven different facilities, including multiple hotels near the stadium. Baratta said investigators believe the white substance is cornstarch, but have not officially confirmed what the substance is.

The investigation is ongoing.
