Philly Cops Looking for Center City Pickpockets

A trio committed two robberies from downtown restaurants in recent months, police say.

Police are on the hunt for three suspects who conspired to steal a woman’s purse at the Rice & Mix Restaurant at 12th and Walnut in the Gayborhood last Friday, Jan. 10. According to Philly.com, police say the three are also responsible for a theft at Metropolitan Cafe in Rittenhouse Square on Sept. 20 of last year.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s description of the crime:

The suspect walked towards the complainant, and the male and female suspects went to distract the clerk.

The suspect then sat down directly behind the complainant while she was eating. He then placed his jacket over her purse, which was hanging on her chair back, and removed her wallet.

The suspect then immediately got up, walked over to the other suspects, had a brief conversation, and then left the location.

The 32-year-old woman was robbed of her purse at 8:45 p.m. The main pickpocket suspect is described as a stocky, 40-year-old black man, 5-foot-9 to 6-feet tall, wearing a blue jeff cap and a snazzy argyle sweater.
