The Roots Will Play Super Bowl Weekend

With some special guests.

Bruno Mars is headlining the Super Bowl halftime show but this year’s festivities include a smattering of concerts throughout the weekend at the “Bud Light Hotel,” which is actually a boat docked on the Manhattan side of the Hudson River. Saturday, Nov. 1st: the Foo Fighters, who recently got the band back together. The night before it’s the Roots crew, along with special guests Run D.M.C. and Busta Rhymes, and others. Let’s use this news to remind ourselves whence they came–here’s an oldie but goodie, co-written by Philly girl Jill Scott, and featuring Philly girl Eve, rapping a verse.

Love The Roots. They play Jan. 30, though. It’s Feb. 1st for Foo show, not Nov. 1st.

I bought tickets to the Roots picnic one year when they were supposed to getting Run D.M.C. to perform, but it didn’t happen, supposedly because Run and DMC couldn’t bring themselves to take the stage again without JMJ. The Roots got Wu-Tang and tons of other great groups instead, and the picnic was outstanding, but I’m a tiny bit bitter that all these years later, Run DMC and the Roots is happening (and has happened) and I can’t be there. But congrats to The Legendary for all their success and the people who get to see the two great groups share a stage I’m sure will be wowed.
