Killing them sweetly.

To celebrate Hall & Oates’ election to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Philly Mag writers are sharing their memories and thoughts about the Philly duo.

My favorite Hall & Oates song is their first number one single, “Rich Girl.” It’s this anthemic song that sounds so empowering and yet it’s actually a total takedown of a guy who was a fast food heir. I wish all character assassination sounded so nice.

Speaking of assassination, Son of Sam killer David Berkowitz claimed that the song helped inspire his killing spree. Hall & Oates’ response to that was a song titled “Diddy Doo Wop (I Hear the Voices).”
