The Inquirer reports: “Former Montgomery County Republican Committee Chairman Robert J. Kerns was arrested Tuesday on charges of rape, according to court records.”
Kerns, who resigned Nov. 14 while under investigation, is facing 19 counts that also include sexual assault of an unconscious or unaware person, drug possession, possession of instrument of crime and tampering with evidence and lying to authorities, the court records show.
District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman has scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m. to discuss the charges against Kerns.
Three of the charges are related to drugs — possession of a controlled substance, possession with the intent to deliver and rape of a substantially impaired person.
The 66-year-old attorney allegedly assaulted a woman in late October at an undisclosed location in King of Prussia, Pa., according to sources close to the investigation.
