Knockout Game?: SEPTA Police Have Person of Interest In Broad Street Puncher Case

They found him on Broad Street.

SEPTA spokesperson Gerri Williams tells me that SEPTA police are interviewing “a person of interest” regarding the recent attack on a female Temple med student at the Erie station on the Broad Street Line, allegedly committed by the same person who attacked a woman at Broad and Arch streets on Monday. That woman snapped the above photo of her assailant immediately after he punched her.

“We believe based on the photo that you have made available online that this is the same person,” says Williams. “We had officers and detectives out looking, and they found somebody fitting the description sitting at Broad and Ontario on street level around 1 p.m.”

As for whether this is an example of the Knockout Game in Philadelphia, Williams says she thinks not. “We don’t believe this was a situation of somebody playing the Knockout Game,” she says. “The person we’re questioning appears to have some mental issues.” Because clearly the people who are playing the Knockout Game don’t have mental issues, right?

Williams would not release the name or age of the person being questioned.
